"Last mile delivery: the age of mass customization
The ubiquitous digital age is upon us and last mile delivery is not immune to the new trends and patterns that are emerging driven by customers expectations to receive goods faster and cheaper. Carry is at the forefront of trying to solve this complex equation and ensure a seamless experience for the consumers. The journey we embarked on necessitates that we rethink how to marry successful the offline and online elements of last mile delivery and offer a wide range of products and services that span from the single on-demand order to the complex routing of high volume orders in a single day or narrower time frame. Business doesn't need to be cornered into choosing between price and convenience as we are now able to offer a menu of services that cater to the varying needs of the clients and their end customer.

For all the talk of imminent drone take over in logistics, the viable use cases remain limited to remote area with low infrastructure and there is still plenty of opportunities to improve on the current state of affairs and accompany our clients in their digital and sustainability transformation"

Whether it’s the impact of Information management, warehousing concepts, sustainability, transportation, last mile delivery, blockchain or AI, the participants come away with a wealth of information and ideas

As a track chair for the warehouse safety as well as the Last mile delivery, it was fascinating to delve deeper into an issue close to all our hearts, safety. What is happening in the world of concrete flooring, how this improves productivity, safety and efficiency were well covered by Twintec Middle East. While how automation is helping us take the next steps in terms of improved productivity was explained by Unitechnik FZE

The last mile challenges faced by industry leaders in the region, the ever-increasing customer expectations of instantaneous delivery coupled with governmental regulations and low barriers to entry provided a fresh view in this ever important subject of last mile delivery within the supply chain. A panel of industry leaders from Aramex, Fetcher, Al Futtaim and Carry Delivery fielded pertinent questions from the audience about what companies are doing to meet and exceed customer expectations.

“It was a very full and beneficial day for everyone; we found the day to be both informative and enjoyable, and of course a great networking opportunity with other regional and international supply chain professionals.
The message that kept coming out of all the presentations and discussions throughout the day was that there is a significant change in the industry, and that means a new opportunity for everyone.
It is clear from what we have seen today that many organisations are increasingly investing in better capability by placing more emphasis on technology, connectivity and processes.”

Blockchain and its visible application as Bitcoin is one the most hyped yet little-understood technology of today’s world. On the hype cycle, today blockchain thanks to the meteoritic rise of Bitcoin and other crypto-currencies is on everybody’s radar.

The blockchain breakout session covering concepts, cryptocurrencies and smart contracts went a long way in demystifying blockchain as understood by a layperson and the coverage of applications related to logistics industry was very well received by the audience. Smart contracts offer a viable and real solution to this industry specifically covering cross-border trade and payments

Deep learning techniques have enabled processing of complex natural language by machines. So, supply chain based analytical solutions can now be equipped with an ability to understand voice-based inputs. The importance of integrating voice aspect stems from the fact that traditionally analytical initiatives have had lower acceptance among end users and voice aspect has advantages of being hands-free and the conversational aspect which engages the users more.

Voice-enabled analytical solutions have application in manufacturing, warehousing, logistics as well as customer-facing operations. The challenge in integrating the voice aspect stems from the fact that understanding intention from natural language requires intelligence to process unstructured data. It is difficult for machines to understand intention because of various challenges in a normal language such as synonyms, multiple ways of communicating the same point, pronunciation, loss of information in voice to text conversion, etc. It is here that Deep learning techniques have been most successful in understanding the hidden complex patterns in natural language and providing fairly accurate results.

NeenOpal leverages machine learning techniques to build such capabilities in their supply chain solutions. Apart from building superior algorithms, NeenOpal also takes into account the business context and behavioural aspect of end-user acceptance to make sure that analytical initiatives taken by organizations are successful.
